Ernest “Uncle Ernie” “Maka’i” M. Almeida, 87, of Hilo, formerly of Poipu, Kauai, died Aug. 25 at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Koloa, Kauai, he was a retired sergeant and district commander for the Kauai Police Department and retired from the Hyatt Regency Kauai. He also served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during World War II and was a member of the ILWU. Private services. Edward E. “Ned” Decker, 96, of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Hilo, died Aug. 12 in Oklahoma. Born in Narrowsburg, N.Y., he was a minister with the Assemblies of God, East Hawaii circulation manager for the former Honolulu Advertiser, World War II veteran and a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Battle of Iwo Jima. Friends may call Monday at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2, graveside urn committal service for both Mr. Decker and Mrs. M. Lois Decker, who died Nov. 20, 2010.
